United Arab Emirates and Oil

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) was formed after oil was discovered in the desert during the 1960s. Before this the emirates depended on fishing and pearling for their livelihood.

All that changed with the discovery of oil and today the UAE is a major oil producer with some of the largest oil reserves in the world.

The emirate of Abu Dhabi is the most prolific oil producer in the emirates. The revenue from this oil has been ploughed back into the country and the UAE now boasts a modern infrastructure and thriving population. Since the discovery of oil the population of the UAE has increased tenfold, the vast majority of them now expats. The UAE is a melting pot of cultures from all over the world.
