With the era of the bikini came a new dilemma for women … what to do about the unsightly pubic hair visible around the bikini area. The Bikini Wax is the answer to this problem.

Hair removal is nothing new. In the Middle East local custom and hygiene has meant that woman have been removing hair for a long time. Hair removal in India dates back over 4,000 years. In the Middle East it is customary for a bride-to-be to have a full pubic hair removal for their wedding night.

In the west hair removal is a newer phenomenon. But it is safe to say that hair removal is a mulit-million dollar industry these days. And as bikinis get smaller, the bikini wax has moved to a whole new level!

Types of Bikini Wax

Regular Bikini Wax
This describes the removal of hair in the front bikini area leaving a triangular shape. A Full Bikini Wax removes a little more hair, leaving a smaller triangular patch of pubic hair. This waxing can be performed while still wearing underwear.

French Wax
This is a more thorough bikini wax. A small triangle of hair remains in the pubic area but all excess hair is removed right around to the buttock line.

Brazilian Wax
Brazil is known for its micro bikinis and it is here that the bikini wax is taken to the next level. The Brazilian bikini wax removes all the pubic hair. This is a much more involved waxing process which involves your beautician getting as familiar with your bikini area as your gynaecologist!

Bikini Wax Tips
- If you are having a bikini wax for the first time, make sure that your pubic hair is long enough. It should be at least 1 cm long.
- Waxing is most painful the first time. But the pain recedes quickly once the waxing is done!
- Waxing needs to be repeated every 2 to 3 weeks.
- Make sure that you have your waxing done at a licenced salon. It is advisable to get a recommendation from a friend or colleague: a good waxer will be quick and cause less pain.
- Do not have your wax directly before wearing your swimwear. It will take your skin a while to settle.
- A bikini wax session should take approximately 30 minutes.
